MDS Ltd offers structured, two-year and three-year programmes, postgraduate management training schemes covering every aspect of the supply chain.

The initial MDS Ltd Recruitment process is very strict, so members can be assured their secondments/placements are young people with potential, enthusiasm and the right attitude.

The Training Programme is a partnership which requires flexibility, commitment and input from both sides. The aim is to ensure the Trainee has the support needed to develop both personal and professional skills, while meeting the changing demands of the membership.

  • The two-year and three-year Training Programmes combine practical experience with ‘off-the-job’ learning
  • Successful candidates are employed by MDS Ltd and given four secondments of 6 months each for the two year management programme and an extra 2 further secondments in a 3rd year if on the agronomy training
  • A secondment should be a position of genuine management responsibility, a work placement in which the Trainee is expected to play a full part in the day-to-day running of the business, with the support and co-operation of those around them
  • MDS Ltd works with members to match the best person to the job, to ensure the secondments are productive and beneficial for both sides
  • The member company allocates a Secondment Manager, who is expected to attend a training day to understand their role and responsibilities. The Secondment Manager provides support and guidance throughout, holding regular review sessions and appraisals, and liaising with MDS Ltd
  • The off-the-job 2-year training comprises of 27 days spread throughout the two-year period. The optional 3-year agronomy programme offers a further 20 days training in the final year. Seminars cover relevant specialist subjects led by highly qualified tutors. Current topics include communications skills, employment law, finance and negotiation skills
  • The majority of the off-the-job training is carried out by a number of external tutors including MHA (Matthew Hunter Associates). These tutors are leading providers of business training, team and personal development. MDS Ltd has a long established relationship with the tutors of MHA which has given them a deep understanding and appreciation of industry needs
