About the Role

Core Commercial Purpose: To protect and enhance the reputation and brand of the organisation through the delivery of excellent service, whilst committing to positively promote a food safety, integrity, and ethical culture within the business. 

Key Responsibilities

  • To ensure that at all times you are acting in the best interests of the business as a whole, and not that of an individual or function, to include (but not limited to) Health, Safety and Environment, Business Integrity, Ethical Standards and Wellbeing. 
  • You are required to adhere to Food Safety, Quality, and Integrity Standards.  
  • You will ensure products are produced safely through good manufacturing practices, which meet legislative requirements, specifications, quality and integrity standards agreed with customers.

Customer Relations: 

    • Act as the primary technical contact for food safety and quality, ensuring customer requirements are met and communicated effectively across the site. 
    • Provide front line response to technical queries, customer complaints, product rejections and any crises situations, by direct customer liaison and effective, proactive communication that protects and maintains our brand reputation for delivering safe, legal products which meet the required quality, ethical and integrity standards. 
    • Represent the company at customer meetings/conferences, including development and technical reviews, to maintain and strengthen relationships.  
    • To have technical responsibility for fruit by providing technical guidance and dialogue and work closely and advise Commercial, Procurement, Operation and Compliance teams at all levels building on current partnerships and creating new ones.

Quality Assurance 

    • Regularly review product quality, manage and drive improvements in KPIs and ensuring compliance with customer and internal standards. 
    • Lead, manage and facilitate key step-change projects within fruit, working with leading institutes and centres of excellence to deliver customer needs.

Product Oversight: 

    • Manage product launches and performance reviews, including specification creation and maintenance for raw materials and finished goods. 
    • Technically advise the site to consistently deliver product right first time and to specification to drive consistent product performance.  
    • Visit and communicate with fruit sources/growers to ensure compliance to all AMF & customer policy to ensure delivery of expectation. 
    • Drive the business sourcing decisions pre-season and during the season to deliver consistency and management of season crossovers to deliver best product (variety, quality, size, colour)  
    • Continual assessment of the supplier base and understanding and assessment of competition in each. 
    • Organise and take part in product benchmarking with the Team and ensure delivery of best product (variety, quality, size, colour).

Team Collaboration:  

    • Coordinate with site teams to implement corrective actions for any non-conformities and ensure continuous improvement in quality and safety.  
    • Work closely with the Commercial team to understand market requirements, and to research and develop new varieties and packaging formats.

People management of  

    • Product Manager, ensuring effective information communication to commercial and operational colleagues. 
    • Technical Assistant

 

Qualifications

  • Industry recognised technical qualification (HND/Degree or equivalent) 
  • HACCP Certification & Advanced Food Safety Qualification 

Skills Required

  • Produce knowledge. 
  • Experience of Major Retail customers. 
  • Demonstrable track record of delivering continuous improvement in technical & food safety standards. 
  • Factory Production experience 
  • Line Manager experience. 
  • Full UK driving license. 
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills. 
  • Problem solving and analytical skills. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and with own initiative.  
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask and meet deadlines. 
  • Demonstrates attention to detail and accuracy.  
  • Flexible approach to work.
