MDS Named Best Apprenticeship in Agriculture and Food Production

It’s official: MDS has been named the UK’s Best Apprenticeship in Agriculture and Food Production at this year’s Apprenticeship Guide Awards.

A Proud Moment for MDS

This national award recognises apprenticeship programmes that go above and beyond to deliver quality training, meaningful career development and real impact in their industries.

MDS stood out for its unique rotational model, which gives apprentices hands-on experience across the food and fresh produce supply chain. The programme not only builds technical knowledge but also develops vital leadership and adaptability skills.

A Word from Our Head of Careers and Development

“We’re absolutely delighted to receive this recognition,” said Kirsty Barden, Head of Careers and Development at MDS. “Winning the award is a testament to the dedication of our team and the ambition of our apprentices. At MDS, we’re passionate about developing future leaders in the industry, and it’s incredibly rewarding to see our approach celebrated at a national level.”

Recognising Excellence in Apprenticeships

The award was presented at a ceremony in Manchester, hosted by comedian and broadcaster Mark Watson. The event brought together the best of the UK’s apprenticeship sector, celebrating innovation and impact across a wide range of industries.

Joanna Hughes, Chair of the judging panel for the Apprenticeship Guide Awards, shared her admiration for the sector and the high standard of entries:

“It’s been an incredible experience chairing the judging panel of the Apprenticeship Guide Awards 2025. I’m proud of the apprenticeships sector supporting people to find the careers of their dreams, and judging the entries was tough work. Every single finalist should be very proud of themselves.”

Her words highlight the strength of the competition and make this win even more meaningful for the MDS team and apprentices.

Looking Ahead

This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting the next generation of talent in the food and farming industry. We’re proud of the work our team and apprentices do every day. We’re excited for what’s next.
